"On December 31, 2004, support for AVG 6.0 will be discontinued.

All virus database updates, program updates, as well as technical support for the product will no longer be available after this date! In order to continue to be protected by AVG Anti-Virus, you must be using AVG 7.0"

Maximus,

Thanks for the heads-up. I've been using AVG for a while now, and it has found and repaired viruses the popular retail anti-virus programs  missed.
The new version is available. :D

Thanks,
Howie

I've been meaning to ask this a long time ago.

I have used Norton products for years now and I guess they work as claimed because I haven't had any real problems. What kind of conflicts would arise if I also installed something like AVG and wanted to use BOTH of them concurrently? (Suspenders and belt? ;) )

I have both installed and have NAV set up for monitoring. I'm looking to try the AVG V7 as I think it monitors email.
I do a pass with AVG manually right now. Works fine.

If AVG monitors email then I'll have that as my primary Antivirus. With NAV as a secondary check.

Just don't have them both resident with Auto checking at the same time. I crashed when I initially did this?

I wear belt and suspenders.
Holds my pants up and I have the belt to affix stuff on :)

I also run AVG and Norton at the same time. I have also had AVG catch viruses that Norton missed. I run the latest Zonealarms firewall and keep the new Windoz firewall turned off.

Edit.
Thanks for the heads up MO!:D

I use AVG AntiVirus on my wife's PC and the older version does scan email. You can even add a sig line in your email letting the receipient know that the email they received was scanned and found to be virus free. I just upgraded to the newest version and everything seems to be running smoothly.

The only thing I would caution against doing is having more than one anti-virus run at startup. This used to cause problems in the past, not sure if it still does. Basically, you want one to run at startup and use the other one for manually scanning files.

Also, AVG 7.0 (new, free version) will automagically un-install the old free version (6.0) and then install itself. Seems to work just fine doing it this way.

Thanks, MO. I have AVG and ZoneAlarm and SpyBot and AdAware thanks to this forum. I haven't had virus problems in years.

I have the new AVG and it rocks. Checks email and is everything it should be :)
NAV is now relegated to a secondary position.

Thank God! NAV is a real resource HOG!!

Thank you for the info. I have been running AVG with great results along with Zonelabs firewall. I'm off to update to the new AVG virus protection program. :D

Oh goodie. Now i have to update my computers.
I've always been a strong supporter of Norton but somehow the AV just slows everything down and sometimes the protection is just overkill for my computer. THe firewall is even worse.

So now i stick with AVG for my AV and Zonealarm for my firewall. And everything's free as well. Doesn't seem to slow the computer either.

AVG doesn't automatically update?? You'd think something that serious would take care of itself. .

Mine updated within Version 6 just fine. To get Version 7, though, you have to go through the procedure, because it uninstalls 6 to install 7. You don't want that, with the time it takes, just popping up on you.
