Awaiting a Stretch!

I've been going back and forth on my 555HG Mini Grip for a while, but in the end, I've decided that it's just not for me. I by far prefer Spydercos to Benchmades, as it turns out. Which brings me to my point...

I can't wait to get my Stretch in the mail! I hate waiting, but I've heard so many good things about the Stretch that it's worth it :D

The Para 2 is a bit large for my EDC uses, and the Delica is a bit on the small side... I'm hoping this hits the sweet spot.

Which one did you get? VG10 or ZDP-189?

I've heard so many great things about ZDP-189, but I love VG10. I plan on carrying it with me 24/7, so VG10's corrosion resistance came into play when making the decision.

I have a feeling that you'll really enjoy the Stretch. The blade profile IMHO is quite practical and very reminiscent of the old Hunter model from years past. VG-10 is a great steel and can combat corrosion pretty well and has more than serviceable edge retention as far as I'm concerned:thumbup:.

I have both and to be honest they are very close in size and blade shape. While I don't have them right here in front of me I have compared them and the the blade length and handle length are almost identical if I recall corectly and the blade shape is very close, with the straight spine of the PM2 being the main differentiator. It doesn't really matter though. They're both great knives and you'll probably get at least one of each sometime. :)

I also don't understand the myth of ZDP wanting to rust? I have quite a few knives in ZDP and even in this Florida humidity and being in close proximity of the ocean often, have never seen the first hint of rust. It does have around 20% chromium. Sure a lot goes into carbides, but I'm sure there is still plenty to make it quite stainless. I really like how ZDP holds a razor edge and think it should be given a chance if rumors of rust is the only thing holding you back.

In my experience, it stains and patinas easy. Kinda moody and discolors sometimes. I dont mind that at all though. All that carbon cant help but ooze character. Never seen rust so far.

I love the Stretch as well, but was going to point out they are almost identical in same size as well.

To the OP, I have slowly become more and more accepting of carrying a bit larger knife, and shared a similar view point concerning the Delica and some other smaller knives and the PM2. I love the Sage series (which might be a better in between size you are looking for if you decide the Stretch is too large), and thought I would not need or want to carry a larger knife than those, but have not taken the Stretch out of my pocket since I bought it and am waiting on the green PM2.

A big part of the problem with carrying a Para 2 in the office is the thickness of the handle, which I'm hoping the FRN will help with. Essentially, I love the D4 and the Para 2, but I needed something with the blade length of the Para 2 with the pocketability of the D4... so I'm hoping the Stretch is the one!

Not sure how thick the PM2 is at the handle, but the Stretch is ~.450" thick. It varies depending on where you measure it, but that is a good average number.

The Stretch is an amazing knife! It lays flat in the pocket, almost stealth like,I carry it weekdays to work, then weekends the Para comes out to play.

My Para2 measures .451 thick across the scales.
It carries much smaller than my Manix2, which is .462 thick (but wider and heavier.)
I've been so happy with the PM2 that I've never tried a Stretch, but I've been so pleased with all my Spyderco's that I can't imagine you'll be dissappointed in it. Stretch is about 3/8" shorter and .35oz lighter than Para2. With VG10 and Spyderco ergos, it should be a great EDC.

Sounds like you need a caly 3.5 then...

Just some food for thought...
