There were some absolutely incredible pieces on those judging tables! Congratulations to those who took an award; they were well earned in some very stiff competition.

Agree with Bob, there were some amazing knives entered for judging and the winners were all well deserved. Congrats to those winners.

It sounds like it was a nice show. Hopefully someone will post more photos.

Congratulations to all the award winners.

Congrats to all of the winners. Sounds like it was a great show!

I know the definitions are very subjective, but since there are two separate categories here specifically, can anyone share what design aspects or criteria was used to distinguish 'bowie' from 'fighter' at this particular show? Was it simply the individual maker choosing to put a particular knife into that category?

I am just asking for pure curiosity's sake. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

John,

The show doesn't post any restrictions on the knives submitted. It's the maker's call where he/she places the knives to be judged. Since a Bowie knife is a type of fighter, it could be placed in either category. The same with a dagger which could have been in either the dagger or fighter category.

Hope that this helps.

Gary

Looks like it was a great show and everyone had a great time. Of all the fine knives submitted, the winners really have something to be proud of.

Was there a Show Photographer present to witness some of these?

I know Caleb Royer went there, not sure if he set up. Chuck Ward has been the go-to guy for years.

This show certainly brings out the best in many makers. Witness the above list!

Thanks Gary.

Congrats to all the winners, especially John, Dave and Mike who seemingly dominated the award this year. Quite a show for John, which makes me happy.

Sorry to see that they do not have an award for the best use of pearl like the old AKA Show had. I always liked to see the knives entered in that category.

Chuck was setup and shooting knives. Not sure how many he shot but he is usually very busy.

It sure would be nice to see some pictures - especially pro shots - of some of (or preferably all of) the winners. And IMO it would be good business of the show promoters to publish such pictures to help promote their show.

I was told by one of the winners that the promoter did not arrange to have the winning knives photographed. It's my understanding that this is standard practice though I have no firsthand experience...yet. It is possible that if you didn't see John's awesome ring guard short sword/dagger pair at the show, you never will. That would be sad.

Unsurprising list of winners. I like the way this show chooses the Best of the group. Allowing the table holders to vote is pure genius. Ive been to shows where they have a handful of judges that are not qualified to make this important decision and it really irritates the makers.
Congratulations to all these fine craftsmen! Well deserved

I wish it were the case in the ICCE also but the maker was responsible to have the winner knife photographed. I won that show and didnt have it photoed at the show which resulted in my crappy picture taken on my back porch showing up in the ABS Bi-monthly. :)
