I posted this on the wilderness forum but as this site is so quiet lately I figured I'd post it here as well !

I retired my MOD4 last year and replaced it with my Swamprat ChopWeiler as my main kindling maker. I have not been kind at all to this knife and smashed it through frozen Maple, Knotty pine etc and it's come through with flying colours, in fact I have still not had to touch up the edge. Admitedly battoning does not wear down the edge as much as cutting but will dull it after a while and I also do use it to cut stuff from time to time as well !!!

Anyway decided to take a couple of pics today......

So how's it cut after all this abuse ? Well after making this fuzz stick I'd say not bad at all !!!!

Now you know the secret! Don't buy a SRKW blade if you like to spend your time sharpening.

I was thinking about buying either a SOD or a NMSFNO and then thought about my two Chopweilers and I came back with the answer. Why? If I can not do it with a Chopweiler, I probably can not do it. It seems like pretty close to the perfect using medium size knive. Yes there are prettier knives (SFNO LE!), BUT FOR USE?

That mirrors my sentiments!

Troll's are particularly cranky when they are wet and cold. :p

Ever hear of an axe?

Hello greenenergy327. I see that you are interested in Bowies but are unfamiliar with the technique of 'batonning' to split wood. It is very good for controlled wood splitting. Give it a try and tell us about it.
