Now, I understand why ZT price is 200+. The term "you get what you paid for" is true. I just bought zt301. The knife is just simply so awesome! great g10 texture, strong blade, very robust, great ergonomic, n great built like a tank!. I did couple tests on my first ZT. I cut some big chunk of branches, chopped the wood by prying it (the tip is just so damn strong and no side to side n vertical play whatsoever). I love it, love it, love it! this knife is going to be my hard use knife and EDC too. I have been carrying this knife for 3 weeks n i don't even feel the weight when i carry it. I am a zt fan now

just couple questions:

1. Is recurved blade easy enough to sharpen on shaprmaker? im thinking to get one

2. I play in the beach quite often, how rust resistant is the s30v steel?? if i wipe the blade after playing it on salt water, will it prevent to rusting?

Thanks guys!

Brother... the only thing saltwater won't rust.... is saltwater.

Actually there is certain steels that will rust much more slowly. But if you want to keep your blade nice and fresh, just keep it out of any salty water.

You can sharpen a 300 on a sharpmaker, just use the corners of the stones and it will take some practice to get the stroke down. When going into the recurve I tilt my wrist down so the blade tip points slightly up and when you get into the belly of the knife I start tilting it the other way so I finish with the blade pointing down. The 0350 was the first recurve I did on the sharpmaker and I actually made it duller the first time lol. With some practice though I was getting it to shave hair without any problem. The harder blade steel in the 300 will probably take more strokes than the average 20 sharpmaker gives as a guideline though, this also depends on how dull you let it get before sharpening. I usually did between 30 and 40 strokes per stone on mine I believe.

How's that saying go? Buy the right tools and you'll only pay for them once, buy the wrong tools and you'll pay to replace them forever. ( sumthin like that )

I bought my ZT0301 in 2006 and I paid a little less than what they were going for but i would've paid MSRP.

I have over 2 dozens knives and the 301 is still top dog.

I got my money's worth and then some.

As this is my very first high end folder, im saying that it's worth to pay up to 200 for this ZT. Based on my previous experience, I have spyderco tenacious and the lock failed when i used it only to chop a small branch. Im not trying to badmouthing though. Agree, 301 is also my top dog as it is still the only one ZT i have, :D

some guys are going jump me for this but I went down to the autoparts store and bought a mixed pack of sandpaper.

from 800-2000 grit.

wrap it around a half inch dowl and all my knives are sharp. Some more than others . Heck, ZT0200 has a polished edge from this method.

after my father in-law claimed my sharpmaker, this is the only method I've used on my recurves.

thanks for sharing me ur alternative way of resharpening recurve blade. I need to develop my sharpening skill in a good sharpening tool as it is going to be very costly for me to send my gear out to US for resharpening.

So do you free hand following the original edge or are the dowels set up-right at an angle like the sharp maker?

By the way sandpaper works great, it is what is used on the highly touted paper wheels.

You can sharpen any recurve using two common items and sandpaper...

I also use the pointed edges of my sharp maker to sharpen my ZT 0350. Takes some practice but after watching some youtube videos and how some of the other guys are doing I finally figured it out. I think I can get a better than factory edge doing it this way and I only have the medium and fine stones that come with the sharpmaker. I still need to order up some ultra fine stones to get a razor edge on them.
