Just received a "true" native/traditional blade made by the Japanese MasterSmith named Shinichi Watanabe.

This one's called a "Echigo-Santou" and is made from Hitachi blue steel laminated wrought iron.

A bit more detail on these steel here: http://watanabeblade.com/english/pro/pro.htm

More on Watanabe's knives here: http://watanabeblade.com/english/special/index.htm
(A bit difficult to walk around the site, but it's really worth the time IMHO, as I learned a lot of new stuff here.)

Thanks for looking! ;)

I really like these knives - they have a sense of primitive power about them. One thing I have noticed on many Japanese blades is that they are all about the blade, and less concerned with the Western concept of fit and finish on the handle and guard. The exception being swords.
