So I set out to have a custom sheath made for my sword. Left a wanted ad on the exchange and James Aguilar responded. We talked back and forth about what kind of design I wanted. He's super interested in giving you the sheath you want. At first I just wanted a basic sheath. But he told me he could make accent pieces to really make it pop. So we talked about that and went back and forth with color options. I finally decided I wanted a black sheath with od green accent pieces that looked like armor. Sort of something you might see in the movie Aliens or the video game Halo or on Boba Fett. That rough beat up looking green armor plate over a black under body. He got the vibe I was going for. I sent in a few rough sketches. I wanted the accent pieces to be oddly shaped and have like vent holes in them to look like they served a purpose. I also wanted one piece to have a coffin shaped cut out to match the tsuba on the sword. Here are some work in progress pics James sent me. The accent pieces have yet to be finally attached and are held on by screws at the moment. Looks like he sand blasted it or something to give it a worn look. I think it's hot as crap. And I love his simple but effective thumb lock as well.
Here was my initial sketch to convey I wanted armor plates.
And a later fleshing out of the plate design.
James' work so far. Looks amazing.
