Hey, AwP...many thanks for your advise on using 800 and 1000 grit paper to take out inperfections. Not only did I work out the depressions I had put in my blade with a belt sander....but cleaned up every knife in my collection. Some of the older knives I'd had since I was a kid were in need of being cleaned up. One my brother had tried to sharpen for my dad with a grinder :eek:
I used 800 , 1000, and 1500 grit paper....changing direction as you suggested. Most look like new.

Glad to help, though I can't claim credit for the info myself... Just regurgitating answers I found when I had your same questions.
