AWT Scales

Well this is rather unfortunate. I Bought a pair of AWT scales, sold to me as "unused" which to be fair they do look unused. And of course one of the pocket clip screws seized half way in. And then snapped. So my question is how's AWT warranty/customer service? I'm obviously not the original buyer. But to be fair to them and not to blemish their reputation, BOTH SIDES seemed to be tapped crooked.

So I guess I'm just looking for some sympathy and advice, do I toss the scales and call it a total loss and buy another set? Do you think the seller knew and was being slimey? I've never had to try and get a sheared screw this small out, especially from aluminum. Anyone ever try and have success?

You really don’t know if it was tapped at AWT or the original buyer bought it untapped and tapped it. I find it hard to believe that they tapped at AWT. I would contact AWT and tell them the true story regarding the scales. They may help you out. AWT sells seconds at a reduced price and this could have been one.

You can try drilling it out if there is not enough exposed to grab, glue, weld, or solder the screw.

Yes I sent a message to AWT but I'm thinking this will just end up being a wash. I believe they were seconds from the factory. I'm first hope is they let me buy a single scale to to replace it (doubtful). If that doesn't work I may try drilling it out with a reverse drill bit. And then if need be drill and tapping it for one size screw up.

I do like the scales they feel great on the mini and improve it a lot, so it's just a rather expensive trial run 🙄

This is unfortunate. I have purchased many sets of AWT scales. 2 different sets for 2 bugouts, 1 set for a Griptilian and 1 set for a Hogue Ritter. All of them came shipped drilled and tapped. I didn't even know they sold them untapped to be honest.

I will say that the first set was a classic set that was very difficult to thread the clip screw in but I just assumed it was the hard anodized coating that caused the slight difficulty. I am sure they will make it right. They seem to be a very responsive company with customer support.

Forgot the obligatory photo. This one stays in my condo down on Myrtle Beach.

This is my go to EDC. Love the blue anodized.
