"Horseshoe appetizer" is very funny, and not arbitrary. Making horseshoes must be a common element in blacksmith education not only in Spain but in France, (and possibly more widely in that area), since I was also given a made from scratch horseshoe by a French blacksmith once when we were together making and using axes. Seems like an ideal warm-up.
