I have just purchased a Hapstone V7 and someone told me that you can sharpen an ax on one. I also purchased the attachment for sharpening a recure. I do use both natural and artificial stones and I own a T7 Tormek (which I do not like and want to sell )
So bottom line can it be done or do I stick to my stones ?

Lots of material on axes, generally a couple of good hand files to set the bevel on an axe, followed by stones to hone it. Can get a Richard Kell bevel guage if you're real curious.

thank you for your reply I do have a good ax gauge from Australia it is 14 to 45 degrees I also have stones

While technically you could sharpen an axe with that it's really the wrong tool. You want to create a convex edge. Most people work with files and finish with stones. You can do it with powered grinders but unless you know what you're doing and are very careful you will quickly ruin your temper that way.

Here's what you're aiming for:

Thank you when I sharpen I have a tendency to sharpen convex lol without knowing for I hold the ax in my hand I bring the stone to the ax not ax to stone. I was hoping that the Hapstone V7 would be able to sharpen an ax with the use of the convex angle attachment. With regards to using power yes you are right one can change up the temper of the metal we own a tormek which is only 90 rpm and the stone is in a water bath ( I could be wrong about the RPMs)
