Asked elsewhere, but we have an experienced group here.

I have a small pole axe (4 1/2" x 2 3/8") marked "MR" - onlt the M and R share the middle leg (Can'r figure how to make that appear here.).

Anyone recall a maker of cast axe heads -- maybe 15 yeasr ago -- who used MR as a mark?

I tried a Goole search with zip results.

Seeing that there weren't any other replies, my information must be correct. Once again my logic is airtight. :D

Tom I don't know if These folks could be of help or not, may be way before the time you're looking for, but they might know something of your axe.;) :D
Either way it's a very good site for anyone interested in old axes and 'hawks.

Thank you for the efort, Yvsa. I proweled that site a couple of days ago (led there by a Google search), but they seem fairly focused on tomahawks, and my little baby is just a poll axe.

I have no idea if this is the source, but I just happened to get a catalog in the mail from MuseumReplicas, a divison of Atlanta Cutlery. They carry lots of Windlass Steelcrafts items, including war hammers, maces and war axes. Might be worth an email to them.

If this poleaxe is around 15 years old then Museum Replicas would of been selling Del Tin blades rather the Windlass then which would be marked with the Del Tin logo. I don't recall them ever marking their blades with MR.

Is there any chance you can post a photo of the axe and a close up of the makers mark?

Sorry, Skyler, no pics. Do you know what a Hundon's Bay pattern looks like? This is the same except for a broad "V" sticking down from each cheek of the head to give better purchase to the handle than you get with the HB pattern. 4.5" long and 2.5" cutting edge - lil' guy. Doesn't seem to have the "look" that Museum Replicas goes for.

As for the 15 year age, that was said on eBay, so who knows?

Here you go Tal.;)

That's the one.

Thank you.

As you can see, it does not seem to fit in the Museum Replicas "family" of axes. Not the first choice for dealing with Orcs or zombies. :D

(Doubling the size of the bevel with the attendant reduction of angle + convexing has produced a distinct improvement in chopping.)

Thankyou.

I thought it might help,

As I recall I owe you an apology from 2 or 3 years ago anyway. I get a bit "intense" on occasions :o
