The wrap-up for the 8th year of the Axe Cordwood Challenge is complete. I put together a little 60 second trailer:

but the main video is here. We had Challengers from Ontario, BC, Sweden, Vietnam, Tennessee, Alaska, and Switzerland this year who cut various amounts of wood. One gentleman cut a very impressive amount. Some people swung just one modest (but well tuned) axe, some nice vintage ages and/or an enviable array of some of the highest end axes in production.

I also posted an album of some participant photos on reddit:

For more information or background on the challenge, there's links to playlists with the full YouTube video and there's an Axe Cordwood Challenge group on Facebook too.

Was there no 2025 cordwood challenge? If not, maybe not too late (lots of weekends left yet).

Thanks for the vids. Very good work.

And thanks to all the axe men who participated and keep axing alive.

i did not entry but i cut almost 10 m3 of wood this year with axes, and i have an idea for a new mini challenge the 100% challenge , processing 100% of the tree , making faggots with branches ans so on...

While I admire the skill and physicality of this method , not very practical if you are trying to heat with wood .

Saw is much more efficient and far less wasteful .

We heated with wood only for 30yrs+ . Never could have done that without a decent chainsaw .

Not saying someone else couldn't . But good luck with that !
