Hey guys I'm new to the forum I'm looking to remove an axe handle without destroying the handle. It has a small metal wedge in it. Looking for some advice on removal.

Can you get in there and pre-drill some holes in the metal to set in some tall screws so as to be able to tug on them? Another option is to whittle down the shoulder of the haft and set the head down further (1/4 inch) so that you can chip away the eye wood to expose the wedge(s) to a pair of vice grips.
Is the axe short enough that you can put it in a warming oven (not to exceed 200 degrees F) for 1/2 day or overnight so as to dry out (shrink) the wood enough to be able to pull the head off?

This.

Provided the wedge is large enough, I just drill into the wedge & thread in a sheetmetal screw, pull on that.
Nr.6 is about the smallest dia. screw thats strong enough.
Otherwise, I drill diagonally thru the wooden wedge, then thru the metal wedge at some point below the surface. From there an awl or similar tool can pry wedge out. From there wooden wedge is easy to pick & pry out.
