In this day & age you'd think good axe handles would be reasonably easy to find. Not so! I've been looking for a long time for a replacement for my iltis.Biggest problem is the eye is 21/2" long & any handles i've found run 21/4" at the most. Finally found one that would fit but the wood was horrible.Poor grain, heartwood & crooked as my dog's hind leg.(should maybe use my dog's leg-warm in winter)Some are straight but have poor grain. To find one that's straight, has good wood,is the right length & will fit seems next to impossible. When i bought this axe(mail order) it came with a poor handle and was poorly fitted. The head is misaligned & the handle has a wicked twist at the knob.It also has a split at the knob.Too bad as the grain is good. The axe head itself is fantastic.I've used it in all weather down to -40 with no problems.Edge holding is excellent & it's never chipped even on knots in the cold(spruce&pine).Crooked handles are very dangerous & i've learned to compensate & be cautious but a good straight handle is a thing of beauty.
