Axe Head Identification Help

Anyone know what brand this may be? I was considering hanging this with a new handle but don't want to go through the trouble if the quality or brand is no good. It only shows tempered on one side and then has a P with what looks like a dog bone on the inside of the eye. Sort of like this >--< Weighs just under 2.5lbs. Thanks.

Can't help you on the ID part but if the blade is 'soft' to a file then maybe this is not the axe for you. The poll on it seems to be chipping rather than mushrooming though which could be a sign that it's hardened. And that is something to be deemed 'very desirable' in a user tool.

I've seen cheapy axes with that 'Tempered' stamp on them (1990's). My guess is that will be a lesser quality axe. Sorry.

Why not give it a couple of swipes with a file?.

Unidentified and/or inexpensive (cheap) does not necessarily mean bad.
