it looks to be a well made piece with a large hard steel cutting surface.the square paper label looks familiar but someone can possibly provide a link to a similar label.i will look into mann .thanks for the tip.It looks vaguely Mann-eque to me, but I can't be certain.

you guys know that's not a superscript 5 right? its a 3. that's a 3^3 axe - which means 3 3/4lbs
I've seen (and have one) axes with 3^1 and 3^3 stamps, but they were always on older axes. seems like at some point they stopped stamping on the quarters of pounds and just stamped in half pound increments.
So, regardless of the maker, I think its an older head.
