I just picked this axe up at an antique store, it's stamped "Americana" and looks like there could be smaller writing underneath that but I can't make it out. I couldn't find anything about the company or another axe with this stamp, so I was hoping someone here could help.

From the reference link posted by Hacked, I went to Kelly, and then to American Fork & Hoe:

Nope. This would just lead to confusion as this reference would be 10 years post AATCo take over from Kelly, and technically post AFHCo takeover from Kelly, which then in order to try and continue brand loyalty they kept names they thought would be necessary. In this case this does not apply. If it did there would be a True Temper imprint on the axe head as well.

I thought Kelly took over AATCo then
AFHCo took over Kelly

The marking on the OP head is pretty rough. I believe GLASSPORT PA would have been under AMERICANAX. The OP thought something might be there. I also believe as you say, if it were AFHCo it would have a True Temper mark. The few TT AMERICANAX's I've seen have the TT stamp on the other side which unfortunately, we can't see. It seems to me that if the other side is badly rusted/pitted where the TT mark would be, then AFHCo/TT can't be ruled out.

Here is an example of an AMERICANAX with the TT stamp (not mine):

I cannot identify the age of your axe. I'm just suggesting that if your axe is clean enough that you could see a TT mark and don't, you probably have an axe older than TT.
