Hello,

This is my first post. I’ve casually grown a small collection of axes and could use some help identifying this one. I’m not expert, so hoping someone can help. The only mark is the “B31” pictured and there is what seems to be original red paint. Thanks! Link to picture below.

Does it have ridges running down the eye ? Looking down from the top of the axe the eye will kind of look like a mouth with teeth.

The axe looks like a True Temper woodslasher to me, and this type of marking with a letter and 2 digits is common to woodslashers.
Having eye ridges would be the nail in the coffin.

It's a common Michigan pattern BTW, 50's-60's era.

Hickory n Steel, do you have any idea when them letter date codes first appeared? I have no evidence to say for sure.

It does have ridges. I had a thought that it could be that, but really no confidence. I appreciate the help very much! I have a few more axe questions that I’ll be posting in the future. Thanks again!
