Axe identification request

I have so much trouble with that axe. Total weight 96 oz. I estimate the head is 4 1/2 or 4 3/4 lbs. Marker's mark is on the wrong side. What I can read is ......................S AXE CO. I hope somebody can recognize that unusual shape. Funny thing, those 3 screws make very efficient mounting system; no head movement at all :-)

Otherwise: Use a piece of paper and a pencil. Lay the piece of paper over the stamping an scratch the piece of paper with the pencil. Should reveal something....

That's excellent advice. I am glad you made mention of etching like that to help reveal any stamp, makers mark etc...
Tombstone etching as I remeber it, doing this in elementary/ grade school cemetery field trips here at some old and or historical New England Churches and cemetaries, and have often thought about using it on axes but never remember when hovering over a worn stamp.
