I keep a list of my entire axe and hatchet collection in a logbook. Today, I entered the axes l had gotten recently. I like to research the probable build era, and the head pattern. Still more research to do.
Some heads need to be cleaned up and sharpened.
I have some sheaths that need to be cleaned and oiled with neatsfoot oil.
Some handles need to be glued, others need to be sanded and oiled with BLO.
I did a lot of work today inside and outside the house. The time that I spent on my axes was the most enjoyable.

I maintain a spreadsheet for my scythe collection, but getting them all entered and organized is a challenge I have yet to actually complete. It helps with keeping track of why they're a part of the collection at all, as some are rare makers but quite beaten up and battered examples.

i do possess 17 axes (ridiculous amount for most of you) 14 are users and get some use, 3 are wall hangers. well two are barn hangers, and one is in a closet (a salvage "vault" i use to put bushcraft stuff in plus that axe)

I have around 90, probably half axes, half are hatchets. I use several different hatchets. My lightest double bit splits logs. I work kindling with a camp axe.

I have about 60 axes, hatchets, tomahawks, and half hatchets (mostly Kelly/TT). I like all of the other “store” brands produced by Kelly/TY. I collect anything Kelly. I don’t really use them much. I just keep adding to the total. Not sure what will ever happen to them, but I’m gonna keep them coming as long as I can find’em.

T TonyManx , hats of to you for keeping a logbook of your axes and research.

I try to at least keep pictures. Unfortunately the organization is not what I would like, but I never seem to find time to rearrange them.

First I have a folder for my hand tools:
ZZDNNHw.jpeg

Within that a folder for axes:

For no particular reason I can remember, some subfolders:

I'm a Boomer. Pencil and paper it is. Considering switching to index cards, easier to eliminate an axe if I sell it. I only sell if a acquire a better example. I sometimes trade.

Just need an entry for sale information! That way you can keep track of what you DID have still.

i didn't count my hatchets, they are ten or so...
most of my axes have a name!
My favorite is one of my lightest double bits. Used to carry it in the truck. Ready if a tree falls across the road, or if I get caught in a street takeover. I've named it "Kindness" ;-)
