I know this may come off as a silly question but I picked up a small cruiser head double bit. Well it's smaller than a normal double it's old for sure it has raised cheeks similar to a kelly perfect but less tapered coming from the eye area. I'd say more squared. Anyhow it's the 33 mark that has me scratching my head as I've seen most other axes marked 32 which = 3.5 lbs right? So if this head is smaller and it looks to be small and original sized (not all mis shaped or ground down) what would 33 mean? I cannot find any maker names stamped on it but it's pretty rusty. I'll post some pics in a few when I can. I'm curios and would love to find out more about this neat little axe and if I could find out a possible manufacturer tht would be great,

That's a good one. The dimensions are correct for a DB cruiser. The marking really has me scratching my head. I've seen a craftsman mark an on axe before, but the one I've seen was on the bottom of the axe near the eye. So far I've only seen that once, on a TT Falls City DB. The way it's marked with a larger number and a smaller number says weight to me. Did you have a chance to weigh it? From the photos, it looks like there is a lot of the hardened bits left. I can't help you much with that one. Nice find. It will be interesting to see what others have to say about that one.

Should be 3 3/4. If I'm not mistaken the superscripted number represented the number of additional quarter pounds on top of the big number, hence 32 being 3 1/2. How long is the handle? The curvature of the blade looks to me like it may have been filed down a fair bit, which would explain the small size. Hard to say without it in hand though.

I have not had a chance to weigh it. As soon as I get it off the handle I'll take it to work and throw it on the scale. And yes any and all info would be great! I hope I can get more info as I can't find a maker name on it. As u can see in the pic it is pretty rusty but if I could see the 33 mark I figured that if a name was on it I could make it out. I picked it up strictly because the price was right and it was a smaller double bit. I really appreciate any and all help u guys give and have been. It means a lot and w all that has been going on in my life lately this forum and collecting, working on these axes have kept me sane. Haha much appreciated.

That makes sense vintage axe. Maybe it has been filed or ground down. I'll get it off the handle and do some measurements from the top also. It prob won't be till tomorrow but I'll take some more pics also.

This is correct.

A badly worn 3-3/4 pound axe. Check the eye size. It will confirm that it started life as a full size axe and not as a cruiser. A cruiser eye size is 2-1/4" x 5/8" +/-. A full size eye is 3" x 3/4" +/-. Is the eye length closer to 2-1/4" or 3"?

I'm thinking it was a full size that has been taken down. Bummed lol but hey! It's a learning experience and it's still a cool little axe. I'll clean it up and re do it and prob give it as a gift. Who knows might even hang on to it and use it.
