This is my first post. About my first leather craft. I just made this neck guard for my new Gransfors Bruk axe.

Took a little work, especially having to learn how to work a piece of leather, how to shape it, punch it, dye it and so forth. So here it is. I think I may remake the sheath to match the colour and to have a built in belt loop. Although, I may just make a separate belt loop. Perhaps I can get some input which I should do. Anyway, it was a fun little project. Had a little difficulty lacing up the back but other than that it went fairly smooth.

Anyway. Lemme know what you all think.

looks good. you should be able to lace it off the axe, wet it and force it into place. that is if the knob isn't too large. The leather will dry to shape.

looks good and like it would not interfere with the function of the axe, which is Paramount. good work.

Guys, this is my first post on here. I love the way that neck guard looks. It is rustic and well made. I just got my GB SFA Christmas morning (ordered by me of course) but I still have not hit wood yet. How does the neck guard feel in the hand as the handle of the GB has a bit of a finger angle for delicate work meant for the hand close to the head?

I tell you what, the bald spot on my arm testing the sharpness of the blade confirms all the quality postings about GB axes. The handle is perfect and the blade is something that I have already told my oldest son should be passed down the lineage. Something to remember me by.

that looks great, especially for your first leather project. thanks for sharing

Awesome looking piece of work, OP! Especially seeing that its your first time working with leather. You got the color to match up really well; it almost looks like it came with it.

As for the axe itsself, I too have long heard of the fabled Gransfors Bruk axes and their supreme quality, but I never could bring myself to pay the price for one. However, like Edgeforlife, Santa brought me a GB for Christmas :) Mine however is the Large Splitting Axe with a 3.5lb head. I took it out this past weekend and all I can say is WOW! It cut like butter through a gnarly, knotty red oak that had fallen. Couldn't be happier.
