Axe of unknown origin

And unknown time period:









12.5" total length, 6.5" blade length, brass/copper/bronze?? (can't tell), the engravings have no perceptible design.
 
Whatever it is certainly wasn't meant to be actually used. This is not a snub but a tradesman's observation. And please don't tell me this was scooped up for $5 at an obscure flea market somewhere. If ever there was a conversation thing to hang on the wall this certainly qualifies.
 
Looks like a ceremonial or decorative axe of some sort. It could be valuable if it's old. Or it could be a stage prop. Is the handle also made of metal? Is it all one piece?

Yeah, all metal. Bottom of handle is hollow to allow a haft or pike to slip inside. The person who sold it to me said it belonged to her late grandfather -- who had obtained it as a collectible -- and that it has to be least 100 yrs old.
