I bought an old Axe for my son and I'd like to clean it up a bit so I have a few basic question:

1. I'd like to keep the old handle, it's a tight fit but there's a small gap near the head, does this matter or should I try and re-fit it?

2. I'd also like to clean up the head but not sure what the best method is?

3. Finally I'd like to find a leather case for the head?

Moved to the Axe, Tomahawk, & Hatchet Forum. It is better to use Report Post to ask for a move rather than suggest a duplicate post.

Report Post is the small triangle in the lower left of each post. Any member, even the original poster can ask for a move.

Small gaps tend not to play much of a roll in sturdiness, if it bothers you though you can remove the head (there's a thread on that somewhere here that saves the handle as well) and lower it down on the haft. From the looks you have some room to work with. A brass wire cup brush on a drill works for cleaning it up, as does a vinegar soaked paper towel for a few hours. Any much more and you pose the threat of messing with the patina.

Can't help you on the leather but someone can!

Apparently you scored a double post. I didn't notice there was two. See the other one. Mods might merge them for you.
