Axe weight and markings

So I recently picked up a cruiser axe, and it has a 2.2 on it, but it weighs 2lb 6oz, and not the 2lb 2oz as I thought it may indicate.

Do these markings mean something else, or am I missing something here?

I'm not too concerned about the weights, just was wondering.

The second number is typically the number of quarter-pounds, thus your axe would nominally weigh
2-2/4 pounds =
2-1/2 pounds.

Not likely. Sharpening over the years removed a few ounces of blade steel.

And sometimes the weight can be off by a little. Or a lot..
