Closer ups of some - :)

Have to get these babies cleaned up and ready. Can't wait!

They need some work - cleaned up, bits taken care of - jury is still out on the Buffalo one - I might have to let it be - the dig on the bit is deep - I don't know if I can properly file it out correctly - will have to examine more - but think it is too deep. That Vulcan jersey is the biggest jersey I have ever physically had my hands on - it is a monster, and the eye is small I think - interesting.

Thanks!!

So I am posting this, and these arrive in the mail!! LOL

This next one I am REAL excited about - going to have to dig into research and see what this is all about -

Operator, you're killing me. I wish I had 1/10 of your collection. I really like the Vulcan and Red Warrior Jersey patterns.

Impressive!

Thanks for axe porn fix. I needed that! :D

I like the look of that shingling hatchet with the bevels and the ridge line down the center. Interesting tool. I can't make out the stamp.

I also like the Craftsman double oval stamp. I think those have just the right convexness in the cheeks. They remind me a little of old Manns and Plumbs in that regard. Good geometry. Too bad the toe is a little short on that one.

Shingling hatchet is an AmericanAx Tool - I have a duplicate let me know if you need one Pegs.

The Craftsman with the toe needs some work. Thinking about filing it down to get it in line - I have done this before and depends on some factors, so I will need to check those out, and if I can I will.

Thanks!!!

Did I see that Mann with anchor on a popular auction site? I picked up a red Warrior Jersey bit SO heavily pitted, only portions of a few letters are left to identify it. I have about 20 heads needing hafting.....a weeks work for some of you guys..... a winters work for me :)

Very nice! I'm definitely jealous, thank you for posting them! If your ever interested in trades feel free to pm me :)

Are you using these axes or just have them for show? Trying to learn about these puppies and it seems like all you guys collect them. I'm looking for a great felling axe! to use! Just curious if they see action once you've put some magic back in their swing.

Hi Mike.

"James H Mann Co Lewiston PA, USA 27"

Huh...if "27" is a date that seems very late to be in James's name. What does that mean to you, Mike?

According to roseantiquetools.com, James Mann "patented an axe in 1868 which was sold under the brand name Red Warrior..." That's pretty cool if he was the original creator of the "Red Warrior" line which seems to wind its way throughout axe history and was immortalized as one of Kelly's most famous lines.

2nd pic bottom right, I found one in the woods that looks just like that one but had a shotty weld repair and no markings, any idea what it is?
Also found a nice double bit collins im cleaning up

oops, here is the quote for the last post....

will you be able to fix the buffalo black axe?
or is that too big of a chuck out of the cutting edge?

Looks to me like flattening out the edge would take care of a good bit of the damage and he still has plenty of hardened steel to work with. Only issue would be if that chunk came off because the area was overhardened... the chunk looks almost like a chip-out more than a dent but I can't tell 100% from the pictures.

Either way nice scores, Op. Especially digging the Jerseys.

That type of damage is caused by hitting something you shouldn't have, not by a bad heat treat.

op, what is the pattern for the rusty, on the right in the last pic, flint edge double bit called? I've got a sager chem like that but never knew the pattern
