Axes with Imprints/Embossing/Stampings 10-2015

Coca-Cola!?! I never knew. It's interesting that it has the same 'For Sportsman' stamp that the Shapleigh has. Weren't Shapleigh axes made by Kelly? Someone else?

YesteryearsTools mentions Plumb making advertising axes and hatchets, including Coca-Cola. The same design is shown below.

Although not always specifically marked, indications are that Plumb was the company that manufactured most advertising hatchets. At least four companies providing such hatchets were major shoe distributors. Others were Coca Cola, Purina Feeds and Tom Sawyer Boys Clothing. Plumb made axes as well as hatchets with customized markings.

Incidentally, one of my friends grew up in St. Louis and we were talking about shapleigh hardware axes just the other day. The duck is on his wish list. I think he has one with a hunter and a dog, but not sure.

Yeah, the coca-cola one is pretty great. It's just aesthetics but it does add something to the axe. Makes me think I need to find an embossed axe now...
