Hello,

A few days a go I had a catalog, and was looking at a new(to me) axe and hatchet design. It had a removable, and interchangable head design. looked like good wood or composit handles, and 7 or 8 types from a hatchet up to a felling axe.... The problem, is that I don't know whos' catalog it was and I can't find anything like this from googling...:( :o

they looked interesting and reasonably priced....... if anyone can give me a brand, or a webpage?

Any help is much apreciated!:)

I've seen some removable head axe designs, using different systems (screws, sockets...), all those I've seen so far were closer to gadgets than real tools.
Axe head is under important stress. Adding "removability" systems add (quite) useless complexity, only making it more expensive, more brittle, or subject to jaming, or quick loosening.

Concept doesn't seem that interesting to me (handle generally vary depending on chosen head) and I'm still waiting for such an axe really suitable for pratical use.

I guess you should rather get an "all purpose" axe from fiskars, GB or even a good hardware store one.

If I wanted to spend that kind of money, I'd order a custom from lee reeves( I will next monthe actualy) I do see your points about it being a gadget, or trouble with it loosening. but its still an interesting concept for me. Someone on another forum found what I was looking for; http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11718
and then I found; http://www.helko.de/profil_e.htm

I purchased this splitting maul recently from a German company called Halder. They make a smaller axe as well but I can't remember if it's for splitting or felling. I've put it through it's paces and I really like the polymer cylinder for striking wedges. No worries about shards and it's a nice big striking surface. I've beat on it pretty good and no component failures so far.
