My knife collection is growing, but I don't have a Benchmade knife right now. I keep reading good things about the axis lock and have decided I want one.

I don't have any requirements other than axis lock.

What is the axis lock Benchmade that you recommend?

710 is a classic for a reason. Great blade to handle and weight to blade ratios, good looking, very smooth.

I would recommend something in the griptillian series (551 or 555) for a first BM.

After seeing the Griptillian go through this and come out with zero blade play in any direction, that's the one I'd recommend.

I own a 551 Griptilian. Best knife I have ever had, hands down. No blade play, opens fast and smooth, blade holds an edge for a long time. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get a BM.

I would start with a mini grip. Inexpensive knife, but very good. Plastic handles are kind of cheap feeling, but if you like the knife you can get new scales. A nice blade shape and decent steel are an added bonus to your first axis lock.

Get the Griptilian.... because everyone likes the Griptilian...so you can't, not like it!!!!! :)IMHO

940. Its a provwen design like the 710 that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It carries super nice in the pocket imo as well.

I offer these:

710
940
950
551
746
520

All are Axis-based, yet unique. I am biased towards the 710, but If there's a dealer somewhere close, the best advice would be to go and see how they handle personally. And every one of these are fully covered by a full lifetime warranty well proven by many of us.

+1 on the 710 if you like a larger knife, its the original. The 810 and 275 are also excellent.

My personal bias is the 275, that's a knife that you just can't kill.

First post!

Bionic, I was in the same position 6 months ago that you are in now.
What I did was to go to a Benchmade dealer, who had a fairly good selection.
The guy there had been selling knives for 35 years.
I looked first at a mini- grip, and he began handing me knife after knife until one just felt terrific!
The specific knife I got that day doesn't matter. What helped me was to be able to look at a range of them and talk with someone who knew the product line.
Hopefully you will find your perfect knife!

I now have 6 Benchmade's, and am still very happy with that very first one.
