Axis Flipper with D2 and Black-Blue G10?

Several weeks ago I ordered an Axis Flipper with the black/blue G-10 scales (model 300-1) directly from Benchmade as a Christmas present for my son. When the knife arrived I looked in the box and noted it appeared to be the correct knife with the black/blue G-10 handles, that the fit and finish were excellent, the blade centering was perfect, however, the blade was marked D2. I rechecked the specifications online and noted the model specifications indicate the blade is 154CM. There is an Axis Flipper model 300-1301 with black/green scales and a D2 blade which costs slightly more than the one I ordered. My son loves the knife and neither he nor I are complaining. Just wondering if anyone else has seen a black/blue flipper with D2? We are wondering if this was a fluke or if the D2 blade is the new standard for the model. I plan on letting Benchmade know we really appreciate the upgraded blade. I should have taken pics, but I will borrow the knife from may son later and post some pics.

The 300-1301 with D2 blade has a green & black textured G10 handle and was a limited run of 350 pieces.

The 300-1 has the blue & black textured G10 with 154CM.

Sounds like you have a unique mistake!

sounds like a great knife i love my 300-1 but it does have 154cm

Take the D2 and run!

Please tell your Son to ignore any special edition-type script, if any, on the blade and use and enjoy that sucka. BM's D2 surprises me more and more every dayl

Wow. Jealous. I want that exact knife. Ahem...... wouldn't want to sell it would you? Eh...? ;):)

There exists the possibility as well that QC is not in your favor and the steel is actually 154CM and only etched as D2...

The only way to be sure would probably involve sending the blade to an equipped metallurgist.

I sent off an e-mail to Benchmade, so hopefully I'll know what the deal with the blade steel is soon. I'll post Benchmade's response.

I got Benchmade's response today and it was really encouraging! Here is the text of the message:

Hello,

I double checked, and we are definitely producing the 300-1 with 154CM, not D2 steel- so I would say that you got a one off! Congrats on the upgrade :)

Thank you,

Looks like my son and I really lucked out with this knife! :)

I go back to friend Skimo's post and then ask; did Amber confirm the blade Is D2 as marked, and so you got a one-off with upgraded steel? Or does she mean the blade was mis-labeled as D2 and is in fact 154CM? That would still give it value as a one-off. Just curious.

She said congrats on the upgrade, so obviously it has D2 steel. If it just said D2 that wouldn't be considered an upgrade.

The new Cabela's exclusive 300 just made it's debut at shot show and it has a D2 steel blade with a new color scheme scales.

Try leaving salt water on the blade somewhere. If it rusts, it's D2.

Not to take away from the OP but, am I the only one that prefers 154CM to D2? Both are great steels but I've found the D2 rusts to easily. I also feel I can get a better edge on the 154CM.
