Axis Lock and Deployment

I just bought my first Benchmade. It's a Mini Griptilian. When deploying the blade I find I don't need to release the Axis lock, although, doing so makes the deployment smoother. Is my knife working correctly?

Yes, that is how it works. I almost never release the lock when opening my knives, I just use my thumb to flip the thumb stud.

It's 100% normal, I just thumb flick them, no biggie
