Axis Lock Factory Grease

Hi, quick question from a newbie.

I just received my new Benchmade 551sbkod from BladeHQ and there seems to be some black grease or oil on the axis lock bar. Also, sometimes after opening, the bar sticks and is a little harder to pull back to close the blade. Is this normal?

I'm liking this knife so far, but I'm not knowledgable about knives and want to make sure that I didn't get a bad egg.

Thanks!

The grease is normal as there is usually oil on new knives. Every new knife I've gotten had some kind of oil.
The axis lock is a smooth lock but yours may need time to break in as any lock can be a little rough at first.
When I had my BM Bone Collectors the lock was a little sticky but broke in over time. Opening and closing it and working in the lock is always a good thing, which you're likely doing anyways because who here doesn't play with their knives, especially new ones?

I'd say you don't have anything to worry about you could always wipe the grease out but that's not likely causing the sticky lock. It's brand new and probably just needs some break in time.

Other people will be here with opinions shortly.

It just needs to be broken in. Put a little lube in the slot where the lock travels on both sides and cycle the lock frequently for a couple days. It should smooth out and be fine.
