Axis lock knife issue

I recently purchased a Benchmade 707 Sequel, and traded for a Small Bone Collector. I have encountered a problem with both knives however. They both hit the back spacer when closing. I can clearly see a line where they have cut into the backspacer.

Now, I know that sending them in would probably get them fixed, but the problem is that I am currently military stationed in Korea. The cost and wait to get them shipped in for service and sent back would be more than I am willing to spare at the moment.

Now, is there any chance that they will wear in? IE., could the groove eventually be cut in enough that the blade no longer hits the backspacer? Also, how hard would it be to sand down the backspacer to make a little more clearance for the blade? Or is this an issue where if it went on long enough, the knife would just slowly cut through the entire backspacer?

Any help that could prevent me from having to send these knives a way for a couple months for service would be awesome. Thanks for the help.

I think my 710 is also hitting the backspacer. The axis lock is supposed to stop the blade from closing any further after it gets to its predefined closed position.

What's the backspacer material on the 707 and Bone Collector? If it's G10, it should be pretty easy and clean to sand down if you take the knife apart. Just do it underwater, or at least under running water, since G10 dust isn't something you want in your respiratory system.

If its not affecting closed retention or causing dulling to the blades edge I'd say just leave until you can send it back to BM.

I have a line on the back of my spacer and I do not think my blade is touching the spacer because I can see the line while the blade is closed. If I were you I would examine your knife to make sure that it is actually touching the spacer.

Put a slip of paper in there and see if gets cut. The edge may not be contacting the backspacer hard enough to be a true problem.
