Axis lock or Arc lock

I have owned Benchmade axis lock knives before and like them/trust 'em.They have a pretty clear video/description of how the Axis lock works. Q; How does the SOG Arc lock work ? How do the two compare to each other?

They work the same way essentially. The Arc Lock arcs as opposed the the Axis Lock which goes in a straight line. I haven't done the research on it and have no idea if there's an agreement between Benchmade and SOG because they are so similar. If they don't have an agreement, my conspiracy theory is that SOG made it an arc so they could get away with taking the Axis design without paying royalties.

Functionally, I prefer the Axis because the Arc Lock was kind of difficult for me to operate on some of the models (Tomcat 3.0 and one other). I found that the Arc shape brought the lock bar pin high up toward the back of the handle, making it a very akward feeling for me to pull the lock bar back to open and close the thing. It's a shame too, because I really was expecting to like the Tomcat 3.0.

Welcome to the forums:).

A pic of the arc-lock

The Axis is a simpler mechanism, the Arc is a smoother one. Both are great, is a win-win situation!

Welcome to the madness :P

Thank you! A picture sure is worth a thousand words, now I know exactly how arc lock works.

Now if only there's a picture like that for axis lock. :p

I've got knives with both and it makes essentially no difference as far as I can tell.
