Axis lock up question

Hello everyone-

Just got my first benchmade knife. Ive been a Spyderco for a long time and recently at a local store saw a plain edge 300 flipper.

Well its mine now :D

Quick question as I am not overly knowledgeable with the Axis lock mechanism.

If I REALLY focus and look for it, I can get a tiny tiny bit of up/down movement when the blade is locked open. Side to side is tight.

Im just wondering if this is an issue that should concern me? I assume its just a very slight manuf tolerance somewhere in there that is allowing for a fraction of an mm of movement.

Appreciate any feedback from the group, and thanks in advance!

Its not unheard of for sure i have a hair width of play in my mini grip but i assure you the lock still wont fail unless you. Smash it with a sledge :) if its bothering you, you can try contacting BM and see what they say they might just warrenty it.

It is nothing to worry about. It happens and the lock will still be stronger than most others.

Slight movement (vertical play) will usually self adjust with wear and disappear. I personally haven't experienced any of these issues with the AXIS lock but have read of it and agree with the Professor's comment's regarding it.

The design lends itself to self adjustment and after the caming surfaces polish with use, and even the coatings smooth out a bit it should disappear. There could be other causes but I think this the most common.

If it doesn't get better or gets worse, then I would suggest sending it in and they will take care of it. Benchmade customer service is among the best there is so don't worry, Your in good hands.

I had the same issue with a slight amount of up and down play on my 520 presidio. I sent my knife into Benchmade twice to fix the issue, finally after the second time they got it to were its hardly noticeable, a much greater improvement to what it was when I sent it in the second time. Unfortunately I think I have another issue I found with my 520 after receiving it back from warranty.
