Axis: That Closing Sound

There is just something about the sound of that blade clap/clicking into the handle when one-hand closing a Benchmade Axis knife. I am addicted to it.

In surveying my small collection of Benchmades and opening/closing them, I noticed a difference in the sounds they make. It seems that the most satisfying sounds come from those with more closed backs (i.e.; 710, Presidio, 940, Contego) and the more open backs sound a little more thin and just aren't quite as awesome (Bedlam, Rift, Ares). Does anybody else perceive this difference or is it just me/my particular examples?

Anybody else like this sound?

:)

I like the closing sound; it's the opening sound that kills me. About a quarter of the way open, you'll hear a little click.

That's the detent hook on the blade tang defeating the Axis bar. The springs force it up against the liners in the cutouts which makes that sound.

My kulgera makes a wierd clicking sound when I open it..... never bothered me nor have I investigated.

I too have noticed the sound, and differences between models. My favorites being a 710D2 , 950 and a 615. 710 having the edge. Evokes a similar emotion as a quality car door closing or the clicks and snicks of a well made firearm...

I had never listened closely enough to hear that before but now that I have, I don't mind it. I suppose the detent click suits the mechanical sounds of the knife.
-Fortunately, my lady didn't catch me going around holding Benchmades up to my ear to open and listen to like a crazy man :D

This. I hadn't put that together before. It reminds me of the satisfying sounds of a well maintained revolver.

I am spoiled by everything Axis. I know this has been argued to death but for me I think this is the best all around style lock in the market.
Just my .02 but I have carried one for many years, dating back to the intro of the 710, so I do have a history with the lock and now own four
additional and am looking to add one more. Love the Axis.

It was one of the first things I noticed when I first got my 940 and 710. Very satisfying sound. The Grips, on the other hand, not so much.

I only own one Benchmade, a Ritter mini grip, and the sound and feel when the blade snaps closed is unique to any other knife I have. The sound is...addictive. It's a smile-puter-oner.

I just love that *flick* then *snick* sound of the Axis doing it's thing. There's nothing quite like it. And it Is addictive...

+100!

Yes, the sound of Axis is hard to give up. I like both 940's subtle sounds to authoritive 275 / 741 sound.

So . . . . . when Benchmade used to have the Harley Davidson line, did those ones make a lot more noise opening and closing? :p
Sorry, couldn't resist.

The thing BM does that makes me open/close, open/close, open/close, (infinity) is the THWACK! sound it makes when opening. It doesn't have to be assisted, just something about the axis lock and support pin chiming in harmony when that blade slams into them. And, it's pretty darn intimidating! I love the way my ZT opens, but it's just not the same as my BM's ;)
