While going through the most recent issue of Blade Magazine i came across a small add from AxtionBladez (the makers of the ParaTraxx) it was for a new survival blade along the lines of the Hoods Woods ATAX. Now hold on to your hats and anyone with a bad heart sit down!!!! The new knife they are calling the SRT EXTREME is made of 440C by custom knife maker Jeff Law ( I have never heard of him) and it is selling for $450 bucks!!!! I almost tossed my cookies after reading this on their website. It doesn't show the price in the 2x2 add in Blade.
The way to get to there is www.concentric.net/~stircraz/SRTX.html . I have to admit that it caught my eye in the add, I thought a cheap gimmicky knockoff for an ATAX type tool something to beat around. I would love to hear your feedback on this one. And please tell me if anyone has ever heard of Jeff Law.

Isn't the full company name "Axtion Bladez Conceptz"?

What do I think? I think I could find a lot of better places to spend $450. In the area of "survival" bladez, I think a Busse Fusion Steel Heart would be a nice alternative. Or, you could get a Camp Tramp, Battle Rat, and some really slick kydex fusion sheaths to go with them.

Yep! And try to read the "fine print" about charging your credit card on receipt of order!:grumpy:

I think they're planning to change it to "Izzaxtion Blizzadez Kizzonceptz" very soon.
Are you suggesting that I could have invested my life-savings somewhere else?

:(

I'm afraid your investment has already been embezzled by the company's owner, and turned into spinning rims and a grill full of gold teeth.:(

By the way, I'm a teacher, and my school has an active outdoor education programme. Out in the bush, I bring knives, and I teach my students about what makes a good knife, and how to use and care for them too. I reinforce that knives are tools, and that one should always bring one along when you go out.

I try to teach the kids how to tell the difference between good knives, and junk with silly advertising

So apparently "custom maker" Jeff Law is Mr Axtion Bladez himself. And I'm sure he's grinding every one of those things by hand. :D

As a rule, I have found that tools that have been created to do multiple functions usually(note that I said usually) tend to do none of them very well. Besides I didn't see anywhere in the ad that said I could iron my pants with it .

The fact that it has a sundial on it sells itself. If i only had a nickle for everytime i found myself in a survival situation saying "If only this knife had a sundial on it, i could go straight to building a fire and shelter instead of messing around with a stick in the ground and some stones to determine what time the O.C. is on". Not to mention all the times i could have used a $450 dollar glass cutter. Maybe its just me, but $450 for something ergonomic from Chris Reeve or Jerry Busse, or $450 for flat piece of steel from Jeff Law doesn't seem like a tough question to answer. I'm Canadian too so the exchange is also a huge factor. All the power to the guy for trying mind you, it'd be interesting to see what actual outdoor enthusiasts have to say after getting one in hand. Just my two sense though. Cheers.
