Soooo happy Spyderco did a sprint run of my second fav (next to the Gunting) Spyderco of all time

I opted for plain edge to match my original, for which i also got a neck sheath from River City

the sprint run is thicker than the original...coupled with the texturing, that gives a bit of a different feel than the original. As such, it doesnt quite fit my neck sheath (I dont want to force it and risk a scratch)

the opening has a bit of a different feel as well but i cant quite explain it...maybe it feels more like a liner lock than the original (which definitely feels like a lockback).

glad they kept it tip-down like the original design.

Black g10 is a sprint remake too actually. The original was released a decade earlier and had aluminum handles.

Interesting differences for sure. The gray's liners matching the lockbars looks nicer. The handle chamfering and lack of gap between lock bar and backspacer look way nicer. Pros to both it seems.

Could a difference in spring strength explain the lockbacks vs liner lock feelings?

I've got a black G10 sprint too.

Don't think I've ever seen an aluminum bodied one. If I had, I would have bought it but, now that I've been reminded, I'll be on the look out for one.

Update: There was an original almite (aluminum) scale version of the Ayoob listed for sale on EB. I let it go because I thought the price was too high (even after the seller made a lower offer) because it wasn't "perfect" and I just didn't want it that much.

If you want to see it, just to a search of completed sales for the "SpydercoAyoob" there. The price is undisclosed because a lower offer was accepted but the offer I got was for about $450 (US) and at that price (including sales tax and shipping) would have exceeded my current limit of $500 for any knife.

Just didn't think it was worth it, even if offered at $400.
