Azwelke BK2 Sheath Review.

Well, what can I say?

Azwelke has done a fine job on this Kydex sheath. What more can I say, it performs well, with very little problems, and if there are any, they are user generated. It looks very nice, very trim and well put together. Here are my opinions further explained.

RETENTION:

At first I was worried about the knife falling out of the sheath, as the stock sheath had a snap button loop that went around the knife’s handle. But, even as I ran around, and did all kinds of things wearing it, sitting and standing, moving and still. All throughout, this knife has not fallen out once, and still has an open enough retention to take out of the sheath one handed, and without making your thumb raw with the pressure to the thumb ramp.

AESTHETICS:

The knife has certainly been put together nicely, but how does it look. While this is something that would not have bothered me all too much if it was still retaining the knife nicely, it was a nice surprise to see the time and effort put into it. It was polished around the edges, and was done with enough care that, even while looking closely, the fine polish marks of the sandpaper (or whatever may have been used to polish it) disguised the actual seam, making it appear flawless. The thumb ramp has a nice shape that is perfect for it’s job, and it does not need, and thankfully, does not have any sort of “jimping” there, as all that would have done is unnecessarily grind on your thumb. Now that may only be my opinion, as it is even reflected in my choice of knife, the tastefully jimpless BK2 (it’s comfortable handle is more than secure, and “jimping” is unnecessary, as it isn’t a fighting knife per say).

CARRY:

The knife has a nice comfortable carry, and for clarification, I carry my knife on my left hip, and the knife is positioned for a cross draw. Unlike the stock sheath, with the knife hanging all the way down for all to see (and for the sheeple to gawk and cower), this knife, when paired with a TekLok is not too exposed, and it can be easily, and legally in California, “concealed” under a simple jacket. The knife is not too high to be uncomfortable for me, and I have not noticed any poking in the ribs or abdomen.

CUT TEST:

Oh man! The main attraction! Will it damage the edge like the injection molded FRN sheaths of yore?

To make a long story short, this Azwelke Kydex sheath is really well constructed with good retention. It is sturdy, comfortable, and I will certainly be carrying this for a long time to come.

Also a huge thanks to L4NE4 for the amazing sheath, 50lb test decoy cordage, and the TekLok, which is extremely convenient!

Loved it, very in-depth

How well does the blade balance on your belt when it is riding horizontally? I am always worrying that the BK2 will flop to one side on the belt when carried like that.

Nice review. I usually bend my own kydex but after reading this and similiar reviews, I think it's time to give Azwelke a try. Thanks for posting.

Thought about getting an Azwelke for my 9.

Funny you say that. I was just looking at Becker stuff on ebay and there were some Azwelke kydex sheaths on there. The one that caught my eye for the 9 said that it was made with the holes spaced so that you can use the ESEE molle back...which means you could also use the front pouch. Might be a good setup.

I forget who it belonged to, but ever since seeing it in that recent BK9 sheath thread, I have REALLY been gawking at that Mashedcat Kydex dropleg dangler sheath.

The blade rides very nicely when it is worn horizontally. It flops forward only slightly, but you can't get around that. When I say slightly though, I mean very, very minutely. I don't find it terribly comfortable to wear it that way, as I like wearing knives at my side, and it is too long for that. Try lashing your stock sheath to your side, and try that, or use a TekLok, as that is going to be a lot sturdier. If you like it or not, it is pretty much the same on this sheath.

very detailed review :)
I am lucky you liked it...

Thank you!

I really liked this review, straightforward and to the point,,,, I am sure AZ has many more customers coming, including myself!!

Good to know I am helping a good person who puts out quality products further his company.
In a world of mass manufactured goods, it is nice to see handmade products with a similar quality,
and still having competing prices.
