I have moved to brown rice as a healthier carb choice. I bought a mini rice cooker. I usually have brown rice and peas, broccoli. Spinach etc. In the fridge. About any left over meat or a pouch of chicken chop a little onion, soy sauce or sesame oil for a quick meal. I have cut white bread out moving away from potatoes. I have cut Pepsi from 2-3 20 oz bottles a day to 2-3 a week drinking water and lime juice. I had my blood sugar get seriously out of wack after my foot surgery in May. So I am making changes.
