I just recently received as a gift from my brother a nice Böker Plus Whale designed by Jens Anso!

I was recently loving the Spyderco Rocklobster among other Anso Designs and craved one of his designs.
He actually surprised me a lot, and the knife is now one of my favourites.

The first thing you notice while holding it its it's very refined ergonomics. Mainly because of the wave of the blade and how it meets the hanled when oppened or even colsed.
Next the sculpted smooth G-10 in black-gray(or maybe just black) which is a liiitle sharp on the edges but gives a sleek feel.
The balance is much shifted to the blade, a thick 4mm piece of 440C steel. whis is the first thing I dont like much about the knife. Also it came not impresively sharp and that was a dissapointment.
The clip and the liners are suposedly titanium, but I can't be sure as of now.

The action is special, I haven't tried many blades like this, the thumb stud is perfect and it opens FAST and smooth, it has to do with theweight of the blade, which dwarves the one of the handle.
It also came not so good in that respect. Oppened ok, but closed poorly, also it wasn't centered.

I took it appart and found it to have nylon washers. One of them had been shredded and was causing the problem. Once I changed it back with another nylon whasher and adjusted it was perfect and still is. Thinking to upgrade to phosphor ones.

The linerlock is ok in thickness and meets the blade up n close. It could use a bit of filling on the edges as it is somewhat sharp and hurts the finger after a while.

The blade has a unique shape resembling a humpback whale. Not my favourite animal, but the shape looks beautiful. It has a slight recurve or I might be using the wrong term here...
It also features a subtle two-tone finish. It is 8CM

For the price I'd say its great, but it had minor foibles that I can't say are standard, it might have been my knife in particular. Other issues like having 440 steel on a titanium-G10 folder designed By Jens Anso is a bit strange... Maybe its heat treated decently... I don't know.

Heres some pics, please excuse that the blade is dirty and the pics are cellphone made. I'll update with camera pictures along the way:

i like it alot, real neat looking knife. What do they street for? im big into small fixed blades and Ti framelocks right now but it can never hurt to have a neat folder.

I like the overall design, especially that blade.
I've honestly never seen any review of a Boker Plus product that didn't have at least one small-to-medium fit and finish or overall quality problem.
Judging by A.G Russell's specs, the RC of that 440C could be from anywhere from 55 to 59, hope you got a harder one.

I'd be happy with 57 or above, but no matter this isn't going to be used as much. This will be from time to time my "gentleman knife", and being a present it will have an easyer life than say my F F1 or most of the Spydercos.
Price-wise it's around the 120-130$ but I'm sure you can find it under 100$. It's not relevant in this case as it is a gift but I find it very acceptable even given the minor quibbles. The materials are really top quality overall.

I'd say the less impresive of the knife is how it was put together, but no matter, I'm going to the seller this week to get it NEW. I'm sure this was a special case. I have another Boker plus and while its durability hasn't been outstanding the initial fit n finish was EXCELLENT, and I mean it. I also has coped decently with a lot of medium usage and salty/sandy environements. Overall Loved the 440C on that other one. Sharp and durable and very very easy to resharpen.

I like it, nice lines and solid looking. Nothing wrong with 440C steel. I would have expected the clip to be curved like the rest of the knife.

I like it a lot. I wish the blade wasn't so short tho.... 4.75 handle and only a 3.25 blade.

I like that blade shape a Lot....one of my favs. The thumbstud looks too close to the handle to open it easily, at least that's the first thing I thought when

I saw the pic that showed a closeup of the ts and the handle together.

I have a Boker plus mini ressurrection 2 that I like alot. It's like a ZT 030xx but not as well built. It weight 7.9 oz.

I made an awful video that shows how it's opened.

I might get one, Im tempted to have its "cousin" but maybe I'll get the rocklobster instead Just so I have a different blade shape.

Really love the design and how thick the blade is. Might try to find a good price and pick one up. Thanks for the info!

My Trance had zero issues and I still love that knife. Locks up solid. One of the top 5 knife bargains ever.

As for the Whale, I like it, but I'm done with 440C. I don't know how Boker's h/t is on their 440C so I could be missing something here, but I'll pass.

That's a beaut and thanks for the photos!

I've had issues with several Bokers, even my $$$ Jens Anso 67, so I'm careful to buy only from dealers I trust.

And I second the comment about the Trance -- a great design. I do wish there was an upscale version with better parts.

Congrats on getting your issues taken care of!

Ive got a Boker Plus Ekskelibur and the fit and finish on it is flawless. Every time i handle it, i am astonished how other big companies can put out products with uneven grinds, ill-fitting scales, rough edges, etc.

That being said, i have heard many stories about the hit or miss quality of Boker. Thats why i still havent gotten the Haddock and Cox.
