Need your help fellow knife knuts, my dad's birthday is coming up and I was planning on buying him a new hunting knife. He mainly does a lot of bird hunting and prefers a fixed blade to a folder. He's been using the same cheap knife with a blade made of questionable steel for a few years now so I think it's time for a change. I'm on a pretty tight budget this year but so far I'm looking at a BM Bird and Trout (around 65$ on New Graham). Any other suggestions (around the same price range)? Thanks in advance! :)

Grohman makes a great little trout and bird knife that is a slimmer trimer vession of the origional Grohman Canadian knife. Comes with some nice rosewood on the handles.

The Benchmade 180 Outbounder is also another knife to take a good look at.

For bird hunting, nothing really works as well as a good pair of hunting shears. I know, not nearly as fun to carry, but at least twice as fast for cleaning a bird. I know a lot of bird hunters (and do a bit of it myself) and I don't know a single one that prefers a knife to shears. Buck makes some good ones for around $30.

Thanks guys for the great suggestions.

Glockman, I was originally also looking at the BM 180 Outbounder and the BM 190 Drop-Point Hunter but decided that the BM 192 was the better fit for the kind of usage I was thinking of.

Jeff, the AG Russell bird and trout knives look great and in D2 (one of my favorite steels) as well. I think I'll pick up one of those for myself, my dad favors the more traditional look in knives.

Wlifter, my dad already has a pair of game shears that he uses and it is handy but he doesn't carry it in the field with him.

Once again thanks for the suggestions, nice to know I've got options. The Forum hasn't let me down yet.
