I use a 50/50 mix of neatsfoot oil and beeswax, it goes on like a paste. Its been working great for me.

Goose - how do you get the thread so flat? Do you melt it and flatten it?

I will usually tap the threads down with a hammer, then run the overstitch wheel over them when I am finished. I finish the stitch by melting the thread ends with a soldering iron.
