Black Hole Syndrome-its when you drop something and it disappears.....for good... you can get on your knees...get the flashlight, get one of your kids to help look, but it no longer exists.....there is one redeeming quality.....the black hole usually spits it back out...in a year or two, when you are least expecting it. Gunsmiths have know about this phenomenon for centuries. Picture of new model at the tom and jerry forum

Tom:
I know about that black hole on a personal basis. It literally devoured that box of Koa wood I got from you a while back. Any more available? I can't for the life of me find the darn thing. Thanks.

Marcel

yes i have been inflicted by this also the chuck keys for my drill press and fordom flexable shaft get sucked up on a regular basis

Ever notice how it only takes the really important stuff? All the junk in my shop is always there, but drop (or even just turn your back on) that one crucial spring, screw, or in my shop, entire power tools, and whooooosh its gone forever (or at least till you find a way to do without it or replace it).

Rhino,

Found your chuck keys!!! I was looking for some of those black hole screw drivers a few days ago and found four chuck keys. Didn't know I had that many. Check and see if you have any extra screwdrivers.

one way to solve the problem....at least partially....is to buy a bunch of everything. I have four (4) large chuck keys, and luckily they fit both my large drill presses and my lathe drill chuck... have about 6 #6 torque drivers....etc.... that way if i cant find it right away I just pick up another one....I figured out long ago that spending a half hour (sometimes longer) looking for something that no longer exists was costing me a lot more money than buying a few extra of whatever would cost!

I've heard rumors about people who actually clean their shops every once in a while. Seems it makes stuff a little easier to find. This is just a rumor, not anything I've ever tried!

Hi I wanted to publicly thank Tom Mayo for his kind and thoughtful response to my recent email. I had written to ask for just a minor piece of info and a recommendation from him, and I got back the most supportive encourageing remarks. This guy makes some excellent knives and to be able to have access to his towering intellect is truly a blessing. What a guy! Wow!

HA! Sam's a PIKER BASTID! I on the other hand, was talking the other day with The Almighty Himself and he told me that he needed a new skinner to deal with those pesky Protestants. I told HIM that Tom Mayo was the guy to contact. So Tom, if you hear any booming voices, it's on a referral from me.

---Jim ( Koa wood would be fine for a handle)

Amen. Tom posts a lot of garbage, but every once in awhile he comes up with a few words of real wisdom. Once you hit 50 (or 40?) you start to feel exactly as Tom describes.

Lemme see.... you "represent" garbage???
Awww, you need a higher opinion of yourself. You actually seem like a pretty nice guy. A little vocabulary-impaired, maybe.
