B.I.G finish = Competition finish 2.0?

Last year when Busse decided not to offer the CF anymore due to the apparent complaints/returns the knives were getting from ignorant customers who did not realize what they were buying, that left a bad taste in my mouth. It was punishing everyone for what a few did. Personally, I would have thought a disclaimer or even a signed agreement would have been a better idea, but then again, it's not my company.

I've kept watch though, waiting for the CF to re-surface and now with some of the ganza blades it seems it has...but in a more kicked up version. But I'm curious about that...is it actually a kicked up version or just the CF with sort of a disclaimer/explanation in the description? I was under the impression that the CF was just the raw steel with no polishing or anything done to it other than shaping and sharpening. But the B.I.G. seems to receive somewhat more attention than I thought the CF did.

I didn't see any other threads on the issue, just one or two posts with a discussion about the ganza. So I'd appreciate any clarification when comparing the CF to the B.I.G. Also, any ideas on what the plan is from here forward with the B.I.G. finish?... will it became a standard option (maybe even if not advertised)? Kind of like a secret menu item for those that know and love it. Or just a from-time-to-time kinda deal?

Out of the three finishes of Busse-kin I own, I have to say the CF on my TGLB is by far my favorite!! I'd love to start adding more pork to the table again!

Thanks!

I don't see any INFI dimples on any of the samples...:thumbdn:

I miss the Comp. Finish...:grumpy:

It's all good, just different...variety is a very good thing :D

It does look different as the dimples and deep grooves aren't there. Which is why my guess is that this will be a mandatory extra charge compared to the free CF. So maybe that's the main difference between the two.

Thanks

This.

My take is that Jerry is trying to respond to his customers with a new option. I had two of the 1st Gen CF SARSquatch, and those were fugly blades. Lots of complaints about corrosion back then, likely due to the decarb layer being left on. So Jerry uprgraded the CF finish. Based on pics here, looks like blades intended to be CG, with a coating to cover all sins, were instead given a media blast (to take off the decarb steel) and sent out as CF. That was an upgrade, but apparently many customers were unhappy with the appearnace of their CF knives. So Jerry was forced (it's just business) to drop the CF as a regular option. Take a look at those CF SOBs in the new 'Ganza pics. Some of those have (IMHO) really fugly machine tool marks. I wouldn't want one of those. (OTOH, when i strip a CG blade, i can accept what i find). So the new BIG Satin is a step up. Clean grind lines, and the blade flats look to have been run through a double disc grinder, to take down the INFI dimples. Looks great to me, at a lower cost than stanrd satin finish. Good stuff.

let ne tell you, that was really hard to type, after i've been drinking for the last 3 hours!!!

I had to read your post twice because I saw CF and BIG mentioned....and sure enough I missed that plain jane CF was being offered again! First time since the ban that I can recall. However I see what you're saying, the machine marks are a little rough as they are not universal. It's there at some points but not others. With my TGLB its universal and looks amazing!! Still, between that and the coated INFI, I'll gladly take the CF again!

The Mean Street is the only one that's grabbing me at this point. No black canvas though...I see a lot of guys asking about it and I always thought it was a Busse staple...but I guess not. So I'll just keep watching for that AND the CF to be offered at the same time. Then I'll pounce on the pig!

Two weeks!

Two weeks!

While that is the time-honored response, I see they have the Canvas on their CG Mean Streets...but I'm guessing those are already made up. Otherwise, why not offer it as an option and grab some out of that bin?

But now we're getting away from the BIG finish.

I like what I see in the photos for the BIG finish. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person. I think its a great idea. I was never a fan of the CF and personally hate coated INFI.

I intend for my SOB Variant to be a user. I expect that having the BIG finish will make that a less traumatic process. Now if it only had black canvas, which I prefer on my users. The black and orange G10 will have to do, though.

I love the CF finish on my SARSquatch (Blade 2008?). Stooopid sharp convex edge too.

Looking forward to the BIG finish on the NMFSH...

With you on the black canvas. However, I'm not a fan of G10. Functionally it seems much less "grippy" especially when wet compared to the canvas. And any time I'm paying >$200 for a blade it's gotta be 100% what I want. But offer more CF (maybe a BIG finish) and some black canvas... I'm in!

Off topic but what I've really wanted is a basic of some sort. Just a simple design that is pure function. Maybe we'll see it surface in two weeks.
