I really like this Benchmade 810 I bought recently. It carries slim and it's a bigger knife too. In fact I like it better than about any knife I've bought recently. Blade is dead centered, it has even grinds, hair popping sharp and locks up tight as any. Opens very smoothly, just a flick of the thumb and it glides out. The entire knife has a very solid feel to it and I like the secure grip.

I love my 810 I got recently, great ergonomics. Have you taken some sandpaper to the edges of the scales yet? If not, you should consider it, really takes the knife above and beyond.

I haven't done anything to it yet, but look at it, flick it and carry it out hiking. I just got it yesterday.

It's definitely one of my favorites. I love the blade shape and styling, the CPM-M4 is a definite bonus as well, especially since BM has stepped up their RC target hardness.

They are nice knives for sure. I just wish mine were centered, one almost rubs the liners. I'll use them and get them nice and scratched up, so it wont bother me as much.

It's a pretty heavy folder, and IMO has some very aggressive g10 and too much jimping.
But it makes a great HD knife when necessary.
Mine has great f+f and is nicely ground. Btw.

I'm pretty much going to mirror what Jill has mentioned. Mine has been great and I really have no complaint. The size & shape helps me keep it locked in just the right spot grip wise. No sanding necessary for me.

The steel is taking very nice edges and it's extremely easy to sharpen with my diamond setup with no drama involved, taking a nice edge and keeping it on stuff like cardboard and old tee shirts. I'm running it around 600-800 grit and at that not overly polished edge it eats the softer stuff. I would tighten up the grain if I was working hardwood or something similar.

Alignment is perfect, action doesn't bind. The size is about perfect for my needs. In fact before my income was recently cut I went out and bought a "pre need replacement" ( sorry Jack, I had to borrow that one).

I'm not really a person that needs boxes of more knives but I had to have an extra of this one.

I'm not sanding mine either, I believe it or not sort of like the way the edges feel. I also have tough skin on my hands, because I do a lot of outside labor. Living on a farm you have to.

Jill,

I'm on board. I carry a BM mini Bone Collector as EDC, as well as other Axis-locking BM's on the weekends, and I can't say enough good things about the ergos and speed of deployment/ease of opening and closing of their folders.

Another attribute of the Axis lock that rarely gets discussed here is its great long-term wear characteristics. You can flick it all day long and it ain't gonna wear out the way the framelocks and liner locks do. The Axis lock wears "in."

Enjoy your new folder. I've got that model on my wishlist!

I agree with everything you say, Jill.

Note the blade similarity with the BM 950 Rift. Almost the same blade, but smaller overall package. Short review here. Same action, same lock, etc. I like the Contego, but actually prefer the Rift as it eats up less pocket space. But you lose the Contego's big handle, the deep clip, glass breaker and Bad Mofo attitude.
