Good morning
It’s that time of year and I finally got around to clean up this axe that I picked up out of neighborhood free pile. Obviously I couldn’t pass up a free axe.
Can anyone help me with information about this one. Sure is pretty.
Thanks in advance (not sure the best way to add photo)

Bronson & Townsend Co New Haven CT Connecticut pattern axe. Looks like that one was made by Kelly

What is the give away that it was made by Kelly? Just wondering what the markers are? I know they made ALOT of axes for many many other brands. I’d like to be able to distinguish as well, as I collect Kelly made examples. Thanks in advance!

I mentioned Kelly MFG Co to point out B&T Co was a wholesaler, not axe maker.
To answer your question, it starts with a hunch (years of looking at all kind of mystery axes) followed by process of elimination. Overall look of the head+ shape of bevels. I know, that B&T used Collins James H Mann and Kelly. So most likely, it was made by Kelly

B&T and some evidence of a connection to Kelly.

Crbn,
Any idea about how old this axe might be?
I wish it had the anchor stamp!
Thx
