Wondering about real world experiences with B75P. Also, is there a difference between B75 and B75P? I see it get used almost interchangeably.

And why aren't there many people that talk about the MT15 in that steel? Did it just really suck or something?

I use my B75P Mule in the kitchen a lot, it's been great but there are much better steels in terms of wear resistance, so it is easy to overlook. I don't think there's a difference between B75 and B75P but don't quote me on that.

And I think the reason that the MT15 doesn't get talked about much is because it was a small run (400~ or so) and it was surrounded by other steels that excites people much more, K390, S110V. As well the 204P Mule was supposed to come out before it so the B75P was a bit of a surprise and not as exciting as 204P.

But it most definitely did not suck, I have used mine to great use, and lent it to Ankerson for his steel tests and he sent it back with the sharpest edge I have seen so far.

Is there an equivalent, or something in the same ballpark, as B75P? I know BG42 is supposed to be the same and pretty much everyone loved that steel, but B75 seems like it fell flat. Surprises me a bit. As far as current production steels from crucible or BU, what is its competition?

I had S110V and it was not fun to sharpen and chipped easier than what I expected, leading to long sessions with my sharpener and SIC stones. I enjoy sharpening, but I don't enjoy it when it becomes a 5 hour chore.

Only reason B75P is not more popular is because it is not marketed as "super dooper new best knife steel in the world". Not a lot of hype around it but it is a solid performer for those that I have talked to that have it.

It does not surprise me thought. Have a look at this graph.

Very similar to RWL-34 (Erasteel) and that has been around for some time, same as CPM-154 (Crucible). RWL-34 IMO is one of the best balanced steels of properties. I could see some B75P in my future, no problem and it will perform well.

I carry S110V Native5 since they came out in the last summer. I reprofiled it right away to 26 degrees on WE. It took may be 15-20 minutes max. Since than I maintaining the edge on medium flats of Sharpmaker at 40 degrees setting. This is my most used knife. It has quite a few cardboard "miles" on it. So far it didn't chip. I love the steel. I certainly would recommend diamonds. But as far as I know, Ankerson is using SiC on any steel.

I too found S110V to not be too hard to reprofile on the S110V Forum Native. Maybe about half an hour on the diamond rods for the Sharpmaker to set the bevel and since then I can get it back to screaming sharp with the fines or ultra fines. Although the S110V Mule is a different story, mine came with well over 50 degree inclusive edge so setting that bevel to 15 per side was a chore. Took more than a few sharpening sessions to get it set, but since then it is the same as the Native.
