greetings all! new guy here.

I have a Buck knife with the mentioned P/N. I cannot seem to find out any info oin it except a couple that were sold or traded. Google search takes me here with 1 thread!

I am not a very smart or experienced knife collector but do indeed love high quality knives for sure.

Could anyone tell me about this knife? It seems to be a pretty damn good heavy duty knife for sure.

Some other markings and things on it are ATS-34, BOS, stryder, SBTG police G10

Good stuff here? are these rare or what?

Thanks all and really looking forward to becoming a little more knowledgeable here.

I have another knife I want to run by you guys as well a bit later

The regular bar crowd here will tell ya how bored they are hearing me rave about it...:yawn:

The 882 is my favorite EDC.:thumbup:

Well...now it is a 882 body with a 889 blade.
I don't care for the serrations of the 882 blade.
And I didn't like the harsh bumps on the 889 handle.
So, I put the best what I liked about the two and Frankenknifed it.
Now I don't know what to call it.

The 882 is no longer made. Someone will be around with more info.
Just thought I'd post to let ya know it's a keeper and a cockroach. It'll survive most anything
.

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I would agree so far about the serrations too, do not like them too much

So here is a newbie question for ya, What is an EDC?

EDC is shorthand for "every day carry". You call the knife you carry daily your EDC.

Your 882, while disontinued is not all that rare or collectable, at least yet. It is however a very strong and well made knife. The ATS-34 marking refers to the type of steel. ATS-34 is a high end cutlery stainless. The BOS marking indicates the blade was heat treated by Paul Bos, one of the best and most famous in the business. The combination of ATS-34 steel and Bos heat treating will make for excellent blade performance. The Buck and Strider marking refers to the fact that the knife is a collaboration between Buck Knives and Strider Knives. Specifically it was designed by Strider and manufactured by Buck.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

SBTG police G10

Good stuff here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Russ

The SBTG Police G-10 is the "pricier" version of the standard 882.

I forget what the other 882 model name was but the SBTG police comes with a G-10 handle material. It is darn near bullet proof, and is (IMHO) better than the glass reinforced nylon "taccom" handle of the standard 882.
The G-10 version like yours was about $30 more than the standard 882.
I love that knife! (except the serrations) ;)
That blade is great and sharpens nice and also holds one heck of an edge!

Thanks for all the info folks, I would like to swap my blade out for one that has no serrations. I assume you just call up Buck knives and tell them to sell you one?

I am looking forward to hanging out here for sure. Going to take awhile to get around this site as it is very large! Off to research Survival/Utility knives for awhile!

thanks again, the knowledge here is astounding.

Russ

At this point, your only option is to buy an 889 and switch blades with your 882. The only "catch" is that the 889 is 420HC while your 882 is ATS34.

I just bought a 889 this past week. There is no.. blade wabble. It reaches farther into the pickle jar than some of my other folders.i really like the
way it spreads peanut butter.I like the wider blade. It cuts throught
sausage and half frozen ham with ease.It opens one handed no problem.
I played opening and close for a good while driving to work. The scales are
a little rough. But it gripps the hand good when covered with olive oil.I cut
some 1/4 " rope with it and it still shaves.I like this Buck.I wish that I
would have gotten one earler.Nice bunch of knives Goose.Iwas wondering about the one scale laynerd hole? If the layners was very thick it
might get cut by the blade. But I see that you used a ring.Where can
someone get those little skulls?
Jeff

Congrats on your 889 Hawkeye. I know you've been contemplating one for quite some time! My 889 is still my "go-to" EDC. I may carry something else for a few days then it's back to the 889.

I'm still not sure when or if the 882 was discontinued??

Thanks Messy.. I looked at the 889 for a long time before I got it.But
now I am very happy with it.I looked at several retail stores but no 882.
I am like Goose when it comes to the serrated blades.i have some but
don't use them much.Where do you carry your 889? Front pocket or
rear pocket?
Hawkeye

In my front pocket (without using the clip) for times when I want to keep it low key or clipped in my back pocket the rest of the time.

Is the third knife down in your pic an 889 Hawkeye5? I carry mine in front pocket using the clip.

Yep, as Jeff said, the third one down is an 889SBMF.
Here is a pic of how I carry my 889. Also shows the sheath that comes with the 889LE.

Goose, that 889LE is one of the most beautiful knives I have seen from any manufacturer. You be a lucky man!

Thanks A.P.F.
I do feel lucky.
Buck knives are da bomb and so are the peeps here on the forum.

Thread jack of sorts...
Here are my two 889LE knives (note the diff in the pivot torx as they came outta the box).
When you click the pic and it opens up, you can click that pic and it will show a bit larger (depending on your browser).
I really like the ironwood.

Thanks again! :)

Hey Jeff...
A brother got me some of those beads. Don't know where he got 'em from.
But I just did a Google search a minute ago for "skull beads" and they are available fairly cheap. I think I may get some more myself :)

I took the lanyard off the 889 by the way. It was too visible in my rear pocket and took away from the stealth factor of the knife itself.
Put it back on my riding vest as it was a gift from another brother from a rally.
